The 3A regional basketball tournament has brought teams from seven other Southcentral schools to Seward High School for the weekend. The top two teams at this tournament will go on to state. The state 3A tournament also includes one “at-large” berth available to another high-performing team in the 3A classification.
The tournament kicked off Thursday morning.
In the girls bracket, Nikiski won the first game of the tournament against Houston. Then just after 1 p.m., Grace Christian defeated Homer in a nail biter that was still tied until seconds before the buzzer.
Houston and Homer will play the first game of the day at 8 a.m. on Friday. Nikiski and Grace will face off at 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
The boys bracket saw Kenai Central defeat Redington in the second game of the day. Grace Christian triumphed over Nikiski.
Nikiski will play Redington tomorrow morning at 9:45 a.m. Kenai and Grace Christian face off tomorrow at 5:15 p.m.
Seward plays the last two games of the evening. The girls face Anchorage Christian at 7:30 p.m. The boys play against Houston at 9:15 p.m.
