The driver of a semi-truck died in a wreck near mile 33 of the Seward Highway on Wednesday, Alaska State Troopers say. Around 2:40 p.m., a truck driven by Mark Roderick, 46, left the snow-covered road and collided with a rock wall.
The truck’s trailer was carrying an excavator, Troopers say, which moved forward during the impact and crushed the cab. Roderick died at the scene.
The truck and excavator were lodged at the bottom of a small ravine off the edge of the highway near mile 33 when a reporter visited the site Thursday. Crews had removed the excavator by Friday afternoon.
