The Seward Police Department’s Officer Morgan Woodard received the American Heart Association’s Heartsaver Hero Award in a presentation at Monday night’s council meeting.
“One day, Officer Woodard was on patrol and an individual suddenly collapsed and went into cardiac arrest,” said Dr. Robb Reeg, who presented the award. “This was a young person with a long life ahead of them.”
Woodard responded in his patrol vehicle and applied an automatic external defibrillator, successfully resuscitating the stricken person. Two other responders were on scene as well, and they will also receive the award, Reeg said.
“Because of them, that person is alive today.”
Accepting the award, Woodard humbly denied that he had done anything out of keeping with his profession: “I don’t think I did anything different from what another officer would have done.”
