Public Safety Report

The Public Safety Report is compiled from numerous sources, both official and unofficial, including police, fire, and EMS dispatches, press releases, official reports, court documents, interviews, and other sources. 

In the case of criminal charges, individuals arrested or charged are presumed innocent unless convicted in a court of law.

 

Traffic Concerns and Citations

A verbal warning was given to a driver at Seward Highway and Sea Lion Drive for speed on May 3 at 4:33 a.m.

An officer assisted a motorist in getting his Ford F150 out of the middle of the roadway at Seward Highway near Airport Road on May 3 at 6:50 a.m.

An officer issued a verbal warning to a driver at Third Avenue and Jefferson Street for speeding on May 3 at 3:13 p.m.

An officer issued a verbal warning to a driver between Fourth and Fifth Avenue for speeding on May 3 at 3:25 p.m.

A caller reported a minor motor vehicle accident at the Safeway parking lot on May 3 at 4:42 p.m. An officer assisted in the transfer of insurance information between both parties.

A verbal warning given to a driver at Seward Highway and Sea Lion Drive for failure to maintain lane on May 3 at 11:45 p.m.

An officer provided assistance to a motorist after a traffic stop which revealed the lug nuts on a wheel had come off on May 3 at 11:56 p.m. The vehicle was towed and family was provided a ride home.

A caller reported on May 4 at 2:11 p.m. that her vehicle was involved in a hit and run accident at the Safeway Parking Lot on Friday. Officer provided the individual with a case number to provide to their insurance company.

An officer issued a verbal warning to a driver for speeding at Fourth Avenue and A Street on May 4 at 3:53 p.m.

A verbal warning was given to a driver at Port Avenue and Leirer Road for speed on May 5 at 6:42 a.m.

An officer left an abandoned vehicle notice on a vehicle at Seward Highway and Sea Lion Drive on May 5 at 6:49 a.m.

A citation was issued to Rebecca Edlin near the middle school for speeding on May 5 at 7:53 a.m.

A caller requested some extra signage near the pot hole at Mile 3 Nash Road on May 5 at 3:50 p.m. Public Works was notified of the situation and will try to remedy it.

A caller reported on May 5 at 5:08 p.m. that an hour before they saw someone sitting in their vehicle drinking alcohol in front of Brown N Hawkins. An officer was given the information and the vehicle was already gone.

A caller reported there was a possibly intoxicated driver leaving Safeway on May 5 at 9:10 p.m. An officer stopped the suspect vehicle at Chevron and found they were not intoxicated. The driver Billy Browning was issued a citation for driving while revoked.

A verbal warning was given to a driver for speed at Seward Highway and North Harbor Street on May 5 at 9:53 p.m.

A verbal warning was given to a driver for failure to stop at a stop sign at Seward Highway near Seward Market Place on May 5 at 11:58 p.m.

A verbal warning was issued to a driver on Seward Highway and Aspen Drive for failure to stop at a stop sign.

Officer stopped Austin Morris on Third Avenue and Van Buren Street for driving erratically on May 6 at 1:33 a.m. Morris was arrested for DUI.

A verbal warning was issued to a driver on Seward Highway and Bear Drive for speed on May 6 at 7:01 a.m.

A verbal warning was issued to a driver on the Seward Highway for failure to yield when entering roadway on May 6 at 1:56 p.m.

A caller reported on May 6 at 6:14 p.m. that someone cut them off at Seward Highway and Airport Road 15 minutes before calling. An officer was advised.

A verbal warning was issued to a driver on Seward Highway and Coolidge Drive for speed on May 6 at 10:36 p.m.

Medical Calls

An ambulance was dispatched to the Bear Creek area on May 3 at 11:21 a.m.

An ambulance was requested to the SMIC boat yard on May 3 at 8:23 p.m.

An ambulance was dispatched to Seward Mountain Haven on May 5 at 3:58 p.m.

An ambulance was dispatched to Bayview Apartments on May 5 at 12:59 p.m.

An ambulance was dispatched to Lowell Canyon Road on May 6 at 5:54 p.m.

911 Misdials

A 911 open line was received from near the middle school on May 3 at 10:36 a.m. No sounds of distress were heard. Unable to call back.

A 911 misdial was received from Benson Drive on May 4 at 9:30 a.m. Caller advised all was okay.

Ann accidental 911 call was received on May 4 at 7:15 p.m. Dispatch confirmed with the caller that there was no emergency and no need for a response.

A 911 misdial was received from Sea Lion Avenue on May 6 at 12:09 p.m.

A 911 misdial was received from Dieckgraeff Road on May 6 at 12:16 p.m.

A 911 misdial was received from Swetmann Avenue on May 6 at 3:39 p.m. Everything was okay.

Earthquake Reports/Tsunami Warnings

Miscellaneous

An officer investigated a loud noise near Port and Fourth Avenue on May 3 at 2:27 a.m., but was unable to locate the source.

A caller was advised of a person trespassing on May 3 at 11:18 a.m. The officer was unable to locate the person.

An officer served paperwork on a local resident for the city clerk on May 3 at 12:09 a.m.

An officer served court paperwork on May 3 at 12:41 p.m.

Officers responded to a disturbance on Fourth Avenue on May 3 at 9:57 p.m.

An officer performed a welfare check on May 4 at 9:54 p.m.

A caller requested a welfare check on May 4 at 3:45 p.m. An officer contacted the subject of the welfare check.

A caller reported that a suspicious individual was walking around their apartment complex on May 5 at 6:16 p.m. The caller called back before an officer arrived and advised that the individual had left the premises.

A caller reported an incident on May 4 at 6:55 p.m. in which they believed they were followed and harassed on the Seward Highway to Anchorage. A report was taken and the caller was transferred to troopers to file a report with them as well.

A caller reported a missing person from the Evergreen Group Home on May 4 at 8:29 p.m. The indivudal was reported to be a vulnerable adult. While searching for the subject, the re-contacted and stated that the missing person had made it back to the group home healthy and safe.

A caller advised on May 5 at 8 a.m. that bullet holes and a bullet were found in the train depot building. An officer spoke with the caller and investigated the situation.

A caller advised of a person trespassing at the Marina Motel on May 5 at 9:39 a.m. An officer reminded Morris Nashoanak of his trespass and to stay away from the property.

A caller requested on May 5 at 11:04 a.m. that Gina Cordova and Amber Burks be trespassed from a property after multiple altercations.

A caller advised that he witnessed a male subject hit a female in the head near Third Avenue and B Street on May 5 at 1:43 p.m. Officers were unable to locate either subject.

SeaView reported on May 5 at 4:05 p.m. that a tenant had left the group home when he wasn't supposed to. They later reported he had returned.

A tenant was reported missing from the SeaView group home again on May 5 at 4:05 p.m. and SeaView later stated he is no longer welcome there.

A caller reported there was a man with a gun standing in line at the Post Office on May 5 at 4:08 p.m. An officer spoke to the individual and found it was just a camera.

Someone called 911 from near Safeway on May 5 at 7:13 p.m. asking for a ride out to Salmon Creek. They were advised to either contact a cab or a friend.

An officer assisted Mountain Haven staff with one of the patients on May 5 at 7:40 p.m.

An officer responded to a disturbance at Bayview Apartments on May 5 at 8:11 p.m. Charges were forwarded to juvenile justice for a juvenile for Criminal Mischief V.

Officers responded to a burglary alarm at Cliff View Place on May 6 at 4:41 p.m. Everything was found to be okay.
