Public Safety Report

The Public Safety Report is compiled from numerous sources, both official and unofficial, including police, fire, and EMS dispatches, press releases, official reports, court documents, interviews, and other sources. 

In the case of criminal charges, individuals arrested or charged are presumed innocent unless convicted in a court of law.

 

Traffic Concerns and Citations

A verbal warning was issued on April 20 at 6:03 a.m. for driving with headlights off before sunrise near Third Avenue and D Street.

Verbal warnings were issued on April 20 at 8:22 a.m. near Third Avenue and North Harbor Street for failure to use turn signal and no seatbelt.

Curtis Downing was issued a citation on April 20 at 8:56 a.m. near Mile 3 of the Seward Highway for operating a vehicle with expired registration.

Verbal warnings were issued on April 20 at 12:43 p.m. near Fourth Avenue and Port Avenue for excessive speeding through a business district and driving with expired registration.

Verbal warnings were issued on April 20 at 1:48 p.m. near Third Avenue and Adams Street for excessive speeding through a business district and tailgating.

Verbal warnings were issued on April 20 at 3:43 p.m. near Mile 3 of the Seward Highway for equipment violations: faulty taillight and no visible front license plate.

Verbal warnings were issued on April 21 at 11:40 p.m. near Third Avenue and Van Buren Street for speed and failure to come to a complete stop at a stop sign.

Christopher Hall was issued a citation on April 22 at 10:27 a.m. near the South 72-hour lot for driving without valid operator’s license. Verbal warnings were also given for operating a vehicle with expired registration and equipment violation.

Lisa Correa was issued a citation on April 22 at 3 p.m. near First Avenue and Monroe Street for failure to carry proof of insurance. Verbal warnings were also given for operating a vehicle with expired registration and no front plate.

A verbal warning was issued on April 22 at 3:12 p.m. near Third Avenue and Madison Street for no taillight.

A verbal warning was issued on April 23 at 6:59 a.m. near Seward Highway and Port Avenue for failure to stop at a stop sign.

A verbal warning was issued on April 23 at 2:40 p.m. near Seward Highway and Iron Drive for speed.

Alice McNearney was issued a citation on 6:54 p.m. near the Chamber of Commerce for failure to carry proof of insurance. A verbal warning was also given for speed.

Garrett Phelps was issued a citation for speed on April 25 at 12:18 a.m. near Third Avenue and Jefferson Street. A verbal warning was also issued for inoperable break light.

A verbal warning was issued on April 26 at 11:32 a.m. near Seward Highway and Dairy Hill Lane for speed.

A verbal warning was issued on April 26 at 3:05 p.m. near Mile 3 Seward Highway for speed.

James Woodside was issued a citation on April 26 at 3:15 p.m. near Seward Highway and Port Avenue for operating a vehicle without a valid operator’s license. A verbal warning was also issued for failure to wear seat belts.

A verbal warning was issued on April 26 at 3:51 p.m. near Ballaine Boulevard and Monroe Street for failure to wear seatbelt.

Robert Zoellner was issued a citation on April 27 at 8:45 a.m. near Icicle Seafoods for tinted windows.

Verbal warnings were issued on April 27 at 12:49 p.m. for speed, failure to wear seatbelt, and equipment violation.

A verbal warning was issued on April 27 at 1:31 p.m. near Seward Highway and Nash Street for unreadable license plate.

A verbal warning was issued on April 27 at 2:41 p.m. near Seward Highway and Nash Street for unreadable license plate.

A verbal warning was issued on April 27 at 2:49 p.m. near Seward Highway and Airport Road for speed.

A verbal warning was issued on April 27 at 3:05 p.m. near Third Avenue and Monroe Street for obscured license plate.

A verbal warning was issued on April 27 at 3:17 p.m. near Seward Highway and Airport Road for speed.

Medical Calls

An ambulance was requested to Dora Way on April 20 at 3:20 a.m. The patient was transported to the hospital by Seward Volunteer Ambulance Corps.

An ambulance was requested toLowell CanyonRoad on April 20 at 9:44 a.m.

An ambulance was dispatched to Third Avenue on April 23 at 1:50 p.m.

911 Misdial

A 911 misdial was received from near Catalyst Marine on April 22 at 10:40 a.m.

A 911 misdial was received from near Brownell Street on April 22 at 12:02 p.m.

A 911 misdial was received from near SMIC on April 22 at 1:14 p.m.

Earthquake Reports

National Tsunami Warning Center reported a magnitude 4.0 earthquake 30 miles Southwest of Palmer, Alaska on April 27 at 4:59 p.m. No tsunami warning was issued.

Miscellaneous

A caller advised that a vacuum she left in the hallway of Bayview Apartments on April 24 at 11:54 a.m. had been taken. An officer spoke to another resident regarding the situation.

A caller reported that Patrick Williams Jr was at Bayside Apartments on April 25 at 8:23 p.m., he was causing a disturbance and was trespassed from the property. An officer contacted Williams at his residence and advised him not to go back.

A welfare check was requested on a male near Polar Seafoods on April 26 at 9:46 p.m. An officer was able to contact him and found he was okay.

The Breeze Inn staff requested an officer on April 27 at 9:02 a.m. to assist with removing a disruptive guest from the property. The male left the area without further incident.

In addition to routine patrols, between April 20 and 27, the Seward Police Department recorded 183 physical security checks of local businesses and other locations in Seward.
