As we approach the Independence Day holiday and the annual Mt. Marathon race, Parks & Rec is looking ahead for the remainder of the summer.

With the nice summer weather and many outside activities available, the AVTEC gym will be closed to the public through Labor Day.

Youth Soccer League registration is now open on Seward.recdesk.com for ages 3-18. Practices and games will take place on Monday and Wednesday nights at the Seward Elementary field beginning July 6 and continuing through August 10.

Want to help out with the program? Volunteer youth Soccer coaches are needed. If interested, please email: jrutledge@cityofseward.net.

The Seward Trails Challenge will begin July 1 and go through September 30.

The Trails Challenge is designed to get you out with your friends and family to explore the area’s wonderful local trails. Along the way, participants can learn new skills, see new places, and make positive memories.

How take the Trails Challenge, take a selfie on your favorite part of the trail, and post it on social media with the hashtag “#SEWARDTrails." Participants who do at least 10 trails will win a Seward Hiking Patch and be entered in a raffle for the grand prize. Whether you hike one or hike them all, challenge yourself to get outside and enjoy nature.

If you don’t want to post a photo, official credit can be earned to receive a Seward Hiking Patch and be entered in the Grand Prize raffle by filling out the checklist at the end of the season.

On Thursday, July 7 and July 14, a spike ball meetup will be held at the Jon Perry softball field from 6 to 8 p.m. The event is free. Participants must be at least 16 years of age. Want to know more about the fun sport of spike ball, check out some videos on Youtube.

Everyone loves something that is tie-dyed. On Thursday, July 15 at the Wellington Picnic Area across from the little league field there will be a tie-dye party from noon until 3 p.m. Bring an item to tie-dye and Parks & Rec will provide the rest.
