A hiker required an airlift to Providence Seward Medical Center on Monday after sustaining injuries on Kenai Fjords National Park’s Harding Icefield Trail. At approximately 1:30 p.m. Monday afternoon, a 911 call was placed to Alaska State Troopers (AST) reporting that the hiker had suffered a lower leg injury on mile 2.5 of the trail. On determining the injured hiker’s location, AST requested helicopter assistance from LifeMed Alaska.

Park rangers administered initial treatment to the hiker while awaiting the helicopter’s arrival. LifeMed responders then arrived at the scene and at 2:44 p.m. successfully evacuated the hiker to Providence Seward Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries, according to a KFNP press release.
