At its Tuesday night meeting, the Seward City Council approved $233,000 toward the replacement of the boat harbor’s northeast boat launch. The funds represent approximately one quarter of the replacement cost, with the remainder expected to come from the Alaska Department of Fish and Game.
If the actual cost comes in higher, the council will have to appropriate additional funds to cover the difference.
ADF&G previously assisted the city with the replacement of the south launch ramp, which reopened in June. The department has not yet secured funds for the project, but has agreed to proceed with engineering and to apply for the appropriate grant if the city commits to its 25 percent match now, according to an agenda statement from Harbormaster Norm Regis.
The south launch ramp replacement had a price tag of around $2.7 million.
