The State Forester has lifted a state ban on campfires in southcentral Alaska. Campfires less than three feet in diameter are once again allowed in the Kenai Peninsula Borough, except in several areas managed by the federal government.

Campfire bans remain in effect in the Chugach National Forest, the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge and Kenai Fjords National Park.

Over a hundred wildfires are currently burning around Alaska. The largest is the Swan Lake Fire, encompassing an area of over 100,000 acres in the central Kenai Peninsula. To date, over 800,000 acres have burned in Alaska this season, according to the Division of Forestry.
