Seward resident, Nanci Lynn Richey, 65, died Monday, May 3, 2021, at her home in Seward, Alaska. She will be laid to rest next to her husband at the Pioneer Cemetery in Seward at a later date.
Nanci was born March 30, 1956, in Toledo, Ohio and graduated from DeVilbiss High School. She moved to Alaska in 1975, living in Seldovia until 1979 when she moved to Seward, which she has loved. She worked for City of Seward for many years before retiring from the City in 2018. Nanci loved live music, laughing, cooking, hosting special occasions and 49ers football.
The family said she was known by friends as “Fanci Nanci.” She especially loved her role as Grams to her two grandchildren – Sylas and Ryah Alderman. She was known for her free spirit, independence, vivacious personality, generous smile, and a lifelong friend to many. “Farewell Fanci Nanci.”
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert C. Richey; parents, Gloria Jean Lashley Brannan and Richard Phipps Brannan.
She is survived by her daughter, Jennifer (Jacob) Alderman of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; brother, Rick Brannan of Dallas, Texas; sister, Dr. Randi Brannan of Portland, Oregon; and grandchildren, Sylas Alderman and Ryan Alderman of Sioux Falls; nephews, Anders Garlid, Torleif Garlid, and Colin Brannan; niece, Erin Brannan.
