Mrs. Lory Bica Leary, 81, passed on Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2017, at Providence Alaska Mountain Haven Assisted Living, in Seward, Alaska.
A memorial service will be held 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 16, 2017, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 409 Fifth Avenue in Seward. Father Tero will be officiating.
Lory was born June 20, 1936, in New Haven, Connecticut. She was a business owner, a regional elections supervisor, which took her to several Southeast Alaska villages, and was executive secretary for several companies, one of which included Sikorsky Helicopters. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Seward, Sodality of Our Blessed Lady, The National Audubon Society, Defenders of Wildlife, a lifetime member of the Pioneers of Alaska Seward Women’s Igloo #9, and volunteered with the Seward Silver Salmon Derby for many years.
The family wrote, “She was a widow of Robert Leary, a 25-year military veteran, and was recognized for her support and contributions at his retirement in 1976. One of Lory’s favorite pastimes was hosting Friday night dinners. Many who know her attended these functions, particularly the local church clergy.”
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert “Bob” Leary in 1991, and parents, James and Eileen Bica.
She is survived by her stepdaughter, Kathleen Leary of Gustavus, Alaska, and her children Courtney Evans of Long Beach, California, Kelsey Evans and her son, Tyler Musser, both of Craig, Alaska, Mackenzie (Alex) Devans and their son, Xander Devans, all of Olympia, Washington, and Madison Evans (Matt Svoboda) and their daughter, Esme Svoboda, all of McKinleyville, California; stepdaughter, Julie (David Budbill) Leary and their children, Andria Budbill and Christopher Budbill, all of Juneau; stepson, Ian R. (Pam) Leary of Juneau, and their daughter, Riley Leary, of Anchorage; cousin, Bob (Alice) Bica, of Wallingford, Connecticut.
Dawn and Virgil Campbell were close neighbors and steadfast and loyal friends to both Lory and Bob for many years.
