John Robert Gage, 69, of Seward, Alaska passed away on July 17, 2022. He was born in Seward on April 21, 1953, to Carl and Irene Gage. John was married to Marie Gage on August 29, 1971. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last year with a family vacation to San Diego.
John was employed by the City of Seward in various capacities for 25 years. He worked in the City Shop, was assistant harbor master and fire chief. He also worked on the North Slope, fished for scallops and spent the last 25 years as a heavy equipment operator for Mecto Alaska.
John contributed to his community by being a Cub Scout leader, Little League coach, restoring Woodlawn Cemetery, Lowell Point Volunteer Fire Department Chief, and other numerous volunteer opportunities alongside his wife Marie.
John enjoyed hunting, four wheeling, kayaking, and woodworking, but his favorite thing to do was spend time with his grandchildren.
John was proceeded in death by his son John Robert Jr. (Rob) and his parents Carl and Irene.
John is survived by his wife Marie; his sons Jonathon Gage, William Gage, and Shane Gage (and wife Amanda Gage); his daughters Tiffany (and husband Alberto), Julianna (and husband Larry), and Faye; his sisters Carlene Warren, Linda Crandall and Doris Sanderson; his brother George Gage; numerous nieces and nephews and his grandchildren Jonah, (and wife Malene), Levi, Isavel, Lily, Liberty, Emily, Abigail, Cassandra and Izaiah.
A service in memory and celebration of his life was held on July 23, 2022, at the Seward Memorial United Methodist Church.
John Gage will be remembered for his generosity, excellent cooking, entertaining people with his stories, quick witted humor and love for his family and friends.
