With his wife holding his hand, Joe Owens joined our Lord on Tuesday, March 30, 2021. Born at home in McGregor, Texas, to Hardy Owen and Marie Walker Owen in 1945, Joe grew up with eight sisters. This served him well in his 50-plus year marriage!
At age 17, he joined the United States Air Force and began work as an aircraft electrician. His last duty station was the Elmendorf Air Force Base battery shop. In 1970, he met and married the love of his life, Diane Kay Schmidt, in Anchorage, Alaska. Together with their three sons, John, Jason and Nathan, they lived in various areas through the Anchorage area before retiring to Seward in 2000.
When he and Diane weren't off cruising the world, Joe was an active member of the Seward Community. He volunteered with the Senior Center, the Food Bank, the Silver Salmon Derbies and loved playing cards with his grandchildren.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents; and all of his sisters: Joan, Nancy, Pat, Janice, Helen, Doris, Gladys and Marnell. He leaves behind his adored wife, Diane; three sons, John (Karin) of Anchorage, Jason (Rebecca) of Soldotna, Alaska, and Nathan (Mindy) of Boyd, Texas; as well as 12 grandchildren, Dove, Ashley, Jacob, Erica, Emily, Tovia, Thomas, Luke, Michael, Katherine, Monica and Nicholas; and three great-grandchildren, Psalm Rose, Naomi Violet and Stella Snapdragon.
Services to honor Joe Owens will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, in Seward, on Wednesday, April 7, 2021, at 2 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Seward Community Foundation of Seward.
