Dennis Judson Gallt, age 68, of Seward passed away on February 4, 2018, at Providence Seward Medical and Care Center. He was born on January 1, 1950, in St. Johns, Michigan, to James and Alice (Carpenter) Gallt. After graduating from Ovid-Elsie High School, Dennis joined the U.S. Army and served in Vietnam as a truck driver. In 1979, he moved to Soldotna, Alaska, and later moved to Seward in 1981, where Dennis worked as a welder in the Seward Shipyard Drydock for 35 years.

He was a past commander for the local American Legion Post #5. Dennis was an amazing man with lots of skills that he regularly shared and mentored with friends. He always had great stories that were followed with a one-of-a-kind laugh. He worked hard and played hard, loved hunting, fishing, barbecuing, and firearms reloading.

Dennis was preceded in death by his wife, Dawn Kay Gallt, mother Alice Beatrice Gallt and father James Charles Gallt. He is survived by his daughter, Jude Gallt of Seward; son Eli and his wife, Emilee Gallt, of Palmer, Alaska; grandsons Andrew Gallt of Anchorage, Judson Gallt of Anchorage, Eli Gallt II of Palmer; granddaughters Aleya Leopold of Palmer, and Elyse Gallt of Palmer; sister Diana Jones of St. Louis, Michigan; sister and brother-in-law Rita and Glen Hehrer of Ovid, Michigan; and brother James Gallt of Ovid, Michigan.

His ashes will be scattered at Crescent Lake, Resurrection Bay, Paradise Lake, and Exit Glacier in Alaska. A Celebration of Dennis’s Life will be determined for a later date.
